Sheboygan County, located on the western shores of Lake Michigan, was first established on December 17, 1838, two years after the area was detached from Brown County by an act of territorial legislation. Today's boundaries of the county are still those established in 1838. The first township, the Town of Sheboygan, encompassed the entire county. Currently, Sheboygan County has fifteen townships, plus thirteen municipalities.
During the 1800's, Sheboygan County saw a large migration of German, Dutch, and Irish settlers. Industry in the county flourished, centering on dairy, woodworking, and enamel-ware.
Today, Sheboygan County has become home to many international corporations and businesses. It is also home to top rated golf destinations, racing venues, and other outdoor sports. Sheboygan County provides avenues for anyone wishing to enjoy activities that include fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, and beyond.
